Music and Performing Arts

Following the four Middle Years Program criterion of Investigating, Developing, Creating/Performing and Evaluating, our band program features a wide array of instruments, including woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Students learn the fundamentals of instrumental performance, music theory, and ensemble playing. With opportunities to perform in concerts, festivals, and community events, our band members develop technical skills, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Following the four Middle Years Program criterion of Investigating, Developing, Creating/Performing and Evaluating, students will learn correct vocal production, independent part-singing, the fundamentals of music, and an introduction to sight-singing. Through a diverse repertoire spanning various genres and cultures, the SMS Chorus nurtures both students' vocal abilities and confidence.  In addition to the development of individual listening and singing skills, the students will gain a respect for the collaborative achievements of the group.

Orchestra

Following the four Middle Years Program criterion of Investigating, Developing, Creating/Performing and Evaluating, our orchestra program includes string instruments such as violin, viola, cello, and bass. Students receive instruction in technique, musicianship, and ensemble collaboration. Regular performances and participation in concerts, festivals, and community events allow our students to showcase their progress and passion for string music.
