What is the IB Middle Years Programme?
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a nonprofit organization that offers high-quality educational programs for students ages 3–19 in schools around the world. IB programs focus on academic excellence, personal growth, and preparing students to thrive in a global society.
IB Mission
The IB aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help create a more peaceful world through understanding, respect, and open-mindedness. IB students are encouraged to think critically, appreciate different perspectives, and become lifelong learners.
What is the Middle Years Programme (MYP)?
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for students in grades 6–10. It supports both academic achievement and personal development by helping students:
- Make meaningful connections between subjects
- Develop strong communication, research, and thinking skills
- Apply learning to real-world contexts
- Grow as confident, reflective, and responsible learners
IB World Schools
Schools that offer IB programs must meet rigorous standards and receive authorization from the IB organization. Authorized schools are known as IB World Schools, ensuring a consistent, high-quality educational experience.
IB at Somers Middle School
At Somers Middle School, the MYP provides a framework that supports student curiosity, engagement, and growth—helping learners build the skills they need for success in high school, college, career and life-long learning.
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The Middle Years Programme is one of several programmes offered by IB. The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers a continuum of international education ranging from age 3-19.
These programmes encourage both personal and academic achievement, challenging students to excel in their studies and in their personal development.
In order to teach IB programmes, schools must be authorized. Every school authorized to offer IB programmes is known as an IB World School.
