Math and Science Scheduling Information

Below are the math and science course pathways at SMS and entry points for acceleration.

Our math and science teams consistently review multiple data points including IXL scores, BIG ideas assessments (math), Inner Orbit assessments (science), science practical exam, course averages, and teacher recommendations based on students' work habits and scores in class assessments. This data is also utilized to create our WIN groups for enrichment and student support.

Should you seek to enroll your child in an academic level that is higher than what has been advised, you may do so by completing an Academic Advising Form. This form does not prevent the student from pursuing a higher level.  It serves to ensure clear communication of information between school and home regarding course selection.  All Academic Advising Forms must be received by Friday, April 24th, 2026.  This is a firm deadline.

If you have questions about your child’s recommendation for placement, please contact their current teacher, school counselor, or Mrs. Mangone, Principal.
