Indicators of Substance Use to Look Out For 

Behavioral Indicators

  1. Change in behavior and mannerisms Ex changing friends’ withdrawal from activities, shift in classroom participation
  2. Drug seeking behavior: Frequent trips to the bathroom, skipping class
  3. Impaired sense of judgement ex: making impulsive decisions in the classroom, acting irresponsibly
  4. Low attendance  
  5. Missing schoolwork, slipping grades

Physical Indicators

  1. Slurring speech and difficulty with verbal expression 
  2. Change in eyes ex: having bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils, or pinpoint pupils
  3. Change in appearance- paying little attention to personal hygiene
  4. Frequent runny nose or nose bleeds 
  5. Difficulty staying on task/ focused
  6. Paranoia, irritability, and anxiety
